Trans World Radio Respond to the Typhoon Destruction in the Philippines

Following a month of devastating typhoons, a team from TWR-Philippines has responded by getting involved in the clean up operations and working with local churches on the ground in providing disaster relief.

Throughout October, towards the end of the Philippines typhoon season, the country was hit by a number of powerful typhoons which wreaked disaster in the capital, Manila, and surrounding provinces.

Philippine authorities evacuated more than 115,000 people in nine provinces east and south of the capital. At its height, the winds were gusting up to 115 mph.

Responding to the needs, the TWR-Philippines team joined local relief agencies in handing out food and clothing supplies to those who have been re-homed in the “tent cities”, and meeting those who have been affected by the disaster.

While they met many residents who shared their stories of survival, there were also the tales of great loss.  The typhoons, and the subsequent flooding and landslides caused more than 465 deaths.
