BUILDING HOPE AND HEALING
TWR is pleased to announce it has entered into a partnership with Mercy Ships in West Africa.
Mercy Ships is a global Christian charity which serves the poor in the developing world. In almost 30 years of operation they have provided thousands of free surgeries and implemented many community development projects in the areas of health, education, water, agriculture and spiritual needs.
TWR will be the media arm of Mercy Ships as they move along the West Coast of Africa. The ship, Africa Mercy, is currently docked in Cotonou, Benin, and will remain there for 10 months.
Mercy Ships has two main services: ship-based and land-based. Surgeries are performed onboard the ship and clinics on the mainland provide consultations. Pre-screening is also done to select suitable candidates for surgery.
TWR has completed the first stage of involvement by promoting the screenings at the clinics. These have been in English, French, Fon, Goun and Yoruba. The second stage is interviewing the doctors who perform the surgeries. The third is a series of wholistic programmes about public health to complement the work being done in the clinics. Some of the themes being considered include disease prevention, treatment in the absence of a clinic, malaria, personal hygiene and family programmes.
