When
HIV/AIDS was first identified in the 1980s, no one could have
predicted the devastation that this pandemic would wreak in
just two decades. Entire generations are at risk. Kenya
is one country that has been affected in an unimaginable way.
Kenya has 1.9 million
children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Place yourself
in the shoes of an AIDS orphan and ask yourself what happens
to his dreams? How does he survive? Where does he find love
and acceptance? Experiencing discrimination every day of their
lives, many of these children blame God for their loss.
In an effort to
counter the spread of this unrelenting enemy in Kenya, Trans
World Radio and Kerus Global Education are partnering to produce
character-based radio programming geared toward helping Kenyan
children and teenagers make responsible lifestyle choices.
It
Takes Courage! seeks to accomplish this by communicating
the vital importance of abstaining from sex before marriage
and being faithful to one marriage partner for life. Using
Jesus Christ as the greatest model for character, the core
values of children and young people are addressed to empower
them with the ability to make wise and responsible decisions
and to see their value as human beings in God’s eyes.
The programmes will show how knowledge and understanding
and a healthy relationship with God through Jesus Christ are
the keys to survival in this harsh environment.
