Freedom Through Christ

What does freedom mean to you?

Is it something you tend to take for granted, especially in your walk with Christ? Imagine if you no longer had the freedom to meet with other Christians in your church or fellowship. Imagine if you no longer had the freedom to hear any sort of teaching and encouragement from the Scriptures.  Imagine not having the support of fellow believers in your lowest moments.

In Hebrews 13:3 we read: “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners.”

It is those in prison who are often the most in need of hearing the Good News. They are looking for ways to deal with their sin and guilt and they are particularly receptive to the Gospel message, and the news of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ.

Radio can reach prisoners where they are, no matter what their social status, culture or location may be.

TWR is seeking to meet these prisoners where they are – behind bars. While they cannot experience the same freedom which you or I can enjoy, they can still receive the freedom that comes through knowing Jesus Christ as Lord.

But sharing the Gospel message is only the beginning. TWR aims to support offenders not just during their sentence, but also once they are released. Our words must turn into actions. A follow-up team, which includes two former prisoners, offers Christian counselling on which real behavioural change can be built. The team also help in putting ex-offenders in touch with local churches and assisting them in meeting accommodation and employment needs. We hope that working with prisoners in this way will ensure that lasting fruit is produced.

The TWR prison ministry in Poland has already seen many inmates give their lives to Christ. Miroslaw Duleba, TWR ministry director in Poland, says, “They feel accepted…They are all longing for others who will accept them, and being accepted by God after they have been rejected by their family, friends, and society is the power of the Gospel.”

Despite the motivation and enthusiasm of the local TWR workers there aren’t the funds to continue developing this work and supporting the essential follow-up team.

May I ask you to prayerfully consider whether you feel called to support this project? You can plant the seeds of faith in many of these prisoners. This faith will then help and sustain them through the difficult transition from prison life to public living. Without resources, this ministry, and any access to the Gospel within prisons, will cease.

"...He gave me hope again…I will be transferred to a centre of drug addiction treatment. I pray to God every day, confess my sins and repent, ask for grace and help. Thank you for supporting me in difficult times. "

To be able to help many more people like this we need your partnership through prayer and financial support. If you feel able to help, please consider supporting TWR.  Thank you.
