The Light Still Shines: God’s Church in China

12 December 2025

Across China, believers gather quietly in small groups, searching for safe spaces to study Scripture and grow in faith. Some have never experienced a public church service. Others have no access to trusted Christian materials. Even in these difficult conditions, the gospel continues to spread, and God is strengthening His people in remarkable ways.

For more than 30 years, TWR Canada has supported the Church in China through biblical teaching, discipleship training, and secure ministry tools. Our China Ministry, based in Markham and in China, works to provide resources that help Chinese-speaking believers learn God’s Word with confidence.

The Challenge Believers Face
Strict regulations limit Christian gatherings and the availability of biblical materials. Printed Bibles, digital resources, and faith-based training are tightly controlled. These restrictions create real barriers for new believers and church leaders who want to grow.

Secure access to biblical teaching is essential for discipleship. This is where TWR Canada continues to serve faithfully.

Seminary on the Air
A central part of our work is Seminary on the Air, known as SOTA. This program equips believers to teach and preach the gospel with clarity. The courses span three to four years and support different ministry tracks. Because of your generosity, SOTA is offered free of charge to qualified students.

Today, SOTA has nearly one thousand active students and more than 1,800 graduates who are sharing Scripture in their communities.

In the past year, graduation ceremonies in China, Canada, and Germany celebrated 49 graduates. Training sessions in Canada and Germany continue to strengthen Chinese-speaking believers worldwide. These gatherings include discipleship days, preaching workshops, weekend retreats, and a Bible Study Camp that brought together 56 participants from 13 churches. Through this camp, 21 new Bible study leaders were trained. TWR Canada also supported 295 student meetings in the first nine months of 2025 and welcomed 156 new students into the SOTA program.

One participant said, “This training helped me understand that it is not enough to gain knowledge from the Bible. We also need to study Scripture in depth and apply it in specific, practical ways.”

A new course, Business as Mission, was also added this year, helping believers integrate biblical teaching with everyday work and service.

Media Players and Secure Resources
Alongside SOTA, our team distributes media players that contain Chinese translations of trusted biblical resources, including Discipleship Essentials and Bible Stories Alive. Since Christian content cannot be produced legally inside the country, these devices give believers access to tools they would not otherwise have.

Families, small groups, and house church leaders rely on these resources to grow in faith, teach others, and build community in places where public gatherings are restricted.

Why This Work Matters
Every trained believer contributes to a quiet but steady movement of disciples across China. Through secure teaching, personal study, and small group fellowship, believers are finding strength, clarity, and courage. They are growing in their understanding of Scripture. They are encouraging new believers. They are discipling others who want to follow Jesus in a challenging environment.

How You Can Pray

  •      Pray for believers in China as they seek safe ways to learn Scripture and serve their communities.
  • Pray for the SOTA students who balance study with family responsibilities and work.
  • Pray for our teams in China, Canada, and Germany as they encourage and equip Chinese-speaking believers around the world.

Thank You!

Your support helps believers across China grow in their understanding of God’s Word and stand firm in their faith despite many challenges. Thank you for encouraging this ministry and for helping people hear and follow Jesus in places where access remains limited.
